Green spaces can include community gardens, rooftop gardens, micro forests, green walls, road sides, public greens, parks, greenways and beltways. Sustainable drainage systems help create more green spaces, and these can double as parks or similarly enjoyable spaces for the community and even tourists.
Flood management done right can help protect communities against dangerous water shortages and floods all with the same infrastructure.

Green spaces can be used in conjunction with flood preventing infrastructure to help create "sponge cities". These provide the many benefits discussed on this page, with a specific focus on slowing the flow of rain (or snow melt), allowing the water to soak in, and release more slowly to lower neighboring communities.
This is in stark contrast with what many modern cities have done, which was to use impermeable surfaces and try to get water to move away as quickly as possible, which has caused devastating floods in recent decades.
Improving our air means healthier people, less premature babies, heart attacks, and lung damage. Short-cut grass does little good, but scientists have found that trees and hedgerows provide the most protection from vehicle fumes and other common pollutants found in communities.
Many studies have showed that simply looking at greenery or paintings of landscapes can support our wellbeing. However we enjoy even more benefits when we can breath the air, or even get our hands dirty in nature.
Community members don't have to go far to enjoy their "green prescription" when parks and gardens are reasonably nearby.
By preventing further destruction, replanting with native species, we can boost urban wildlife counts, as well as improve their general health.
More than ever our habitats are becoming fragmented, which puts wildlife at greater danger of starvation, inbreeding, disease, and disasters. Providing wildlife corridors including simple installations such as hedgerows can not only provide cover, but food, and other benefits to all of us, including animals.
Hedgerows provide food, shelter, various materials, that can be used be people or wildlife. Hedges also help clean pollution from our air, and muffle noise pollution, which provides further benefits for our physical and mental health.
Bee Score: Flower Finder "Select the flowers you have in your garden, then hit continue to find out your current bee kind score. If you’re not sure exactly which plants you have, try clicking the filters on and off to help identify the bee-friendly flowers in your garden." This is hosted by and for UK residents, so you won't get a bonus for "native species" if you live outside the UK, and might see your local natives listed as "non-native" or get an "invasive penalty" even if those plants are fine where you live, but this is still a fun and educational resource.
