Veganism is a movement originally intended to help prevent the unnecessary suffering of animals, however it also overlaps heavily with environmental causes.
Livestock farming, fish farming, the fishing industry, the leather and wool industries all have massive negative impacts on the environment.
Hunting for bushmeat, to kill off livestock predators, as well as poaching for the pet industry, tourism and zoos, circus that use animals, private exotic animal collections, public aquariums, direction specimens, and medical test subjects are practices that are helping to drive species extinctions.
By adopting veganism as a diet, as well as other consumption habits such as clothing, animal-based medicines, and entertainment can help protect animals as well as our environment.
"Using country-level data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, we estimated the growth in global food consumption by 2050, assuming that people in lower-income countries will consume more food and higher quantities of meat as economies grow. If 50–75 percent of people adopt a healthy diet of an average 2,300 calories per day and reduce meat consumption overall, we estimate at least 54.19–78.48 gigatons of emissions could be avoided from dietary change alone. Since agriculture, particularly for cattle and animal feed production, is the leading driver of tropical deforestation, reducing meat consumption can avoid additional forest loss and associated greenhouse gas emissions." - Drawdown: Plant-Rich Diets
Raising livestock and their feed not only require more clean water than any other human activity, while at the same time causing serious damage via water pollution.
Across the globe people suffer throughout our agriculture and food industries, however some of the worst treatment is experienced in livestock facilities and farms. Slavery type conditions are rampant from the beef ranches in Brazil to the shrimp farms and factories in Thailand and other parts of Asia, while countries in Europe and North America use human trafficking and illiterate immigrants to butcher animals in unsanitary conditions, since these are the types of people who are least likely to report workplace abuse or even know their legal rights at all.

They make micro grants 365 days a year to grassroots global change agents and have a growing global community of 4,500 grassroots leaders in 150 countries.
