Bat Conservation International "we’re fiercely passionate, expert conservationists and scientists who are leading the charge to ensure the worldwide survival of these extraordinary mammals.
Bats lead us to the best opportunities to protect nature anywhere in the world. Bats are vital to our world’s ecosystems and economy, but nearly 200 species are threatened with extinction."
The Bat Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (BSG) "is one of a number of specialist groups formed within the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of IUCN-The World Conservation Union (IUCN). We are a collaborative multidisciplinary network of bat biologists and conservationists providing support and promoting bat conservation activities throughout the world.
Bats make up one fifth of all terrestrial mammals (1,462 species; Simmons and Cirranello, 2023). They are among the most endangered of the world's creatures, primarily because much of their habitat has been eliminated by human development or because they are persecuted. Because bats are important seed dispersers and pollinators for many native plants, and key insect predators globally, their loss has serious consequences for the ecosystems to which they belong."

Bat1K "is an initiative to sequence the genomes of all living bat species, approximately 1400 species in total. The main goal of this consortium is to uncover the genes and genetic mechanisms behind the unusual adaptations of bats, essentially mine the bat genome to uncover their secrets. Using the newest of our genetic tools, we will deep sequence the blue print and genetic code of every species of bat in the world. It took over 13 years and $3 billion US dollars to sequence the first human genome, and given the great advances in the field it is now much faster and cheaper. We must put these fantastic technological advances to good use and push them to achieve their full potential. Imagine uncovering the secret of longer health-spans, flight, echolocation and disease resistance hidden in the bat genome.
This project is only possible by the mobilisation of bat researchers, volunteers, students and bat lovers throughout the globe. Initiating this mobilisation and bringing bat researchers, field biologists, grass-roots conservation organisations and lay people together from across the globe will allow us to identify and locate all species of bat, so that we can uncover their secrets. Essentially, we will form an active vibrant community of individuals united by a common drive to conserve, better understand and promote bats."

Bat Conservation India Trust (BCIT) "is a non-profit organization which was conceived for the protection of bat species in India by protecting their habitat. Bats inhabit various types of habitats like caves, small crevices, tree holes, old & abandoned buildings, ruins, mines, wells, etc. These habitats are under severe threat with receding green cover and modernization. Hunting of bats for flesh and alleged medicinal properties, excessive quarrying, demolition of old structures, etc., are but a few of the banes that cloud the future of these flying mammals.
Bats play a major role in the sustenance of our ecosystem in multitude ways which is often unknown to the general public and is marred with negative opinion and beliefs. While insectivorous bats act as best insect cleansers by devouring and keeping them under control, fruit eating bats on the other hand are the best natural seed dispersal agents and cross pollinators and hence play a vital role in regeneration. Many species of fruiting trees depend on these bats for dispersal and regeneration. Hence it becomes vital to protect these magnificent creatures.
In order to protect and conserve bats in India we have initiated and conceptualized various projects which include both short term as well as long term approach.
Mission: To preserve and conserve bats and its habitats across India through partnership with communities, scientists, researchers, government and organizations."

Central Coast Bats "is the primary research project of the Pacific Coast Conservation Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Paso Robles, California. Our mission is to study the biology & ecology of bats on the Central Coast, especially annual activity cycles, distribution, and the role they play in our highly agricultural setting.Bats can play an important role in sustainable agricultural practices by decreasing pesticide while helping to control insect populations. One of our primary programs ties youth education with our studies. Local youth, through school and non-profit organizations build and paint bat boxes for installation at ranch, farm, and industrial locations. In addition to helping attract bats to installation sites, we monitor the sites for use as part of our general investigations into species richness (number of species) as well as species density at the installation site. We also offer consulting services that provide solutions for managing insect pests in keeping with sustainable agricultural practices and can assist with both mitigating bat habitat loss and helping design functional restoration programs that integrate natural landscapes and native vegetation to benefit bats and crop production."
