We all know the frustration of having vital information to share regarding the environment, and the difficulties that can arise when disagreements pop up. This isn't helped by the fact that when someone (or their views) feel challenged, humans naturally default to a fight or flight mode, which actually redirects blood flow away from the logical regions of the brain, and towards the extremities, actively lowering mental clarity.
In order to help people avoid common pitfall and develop stronger communication skills, this is a compilation of science based resources to help us open up channels of trust and communication.

More People Care About Climate Change than You Think "The majority of people in every country support action on climate, but the public consistently underestimates this share."
The most effective individual steps to tackle climate change aren't being discussed (Article, Chart, 2017) "Those of us who want to step forward on climate need to know how our actions can have the greatest possible impact. This research is about helping people make more informed choices."
"We found there are four actions that could result in substantial decreases in an individual's carbon footprint: eating a plant-based diet, avoiding air travel, living car free, and having smaller families. For example, living car-free saves about 2.4 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year, while eating a plant-based diet saves 0.8 tonnes of CO2 equivalent a year."
"These actions, therefore, have much greater potential to reduce emissions than commonly promoted strategies like comprehensive recycling (which is 4 times less effective than a plant-based diet) or changing household lightbulbs (8 times less effective)."

Pesticides are poisons intended for pests, but they have a wide variety of negative impacts on humans and other species, even the health of our soil!
"Creating a welcoming home for local pollinators in your home garden or city park habitat is reason enough to choose plants free from harmful pesticide residues. Nurseries are more likely to make investments in pollinator-friendly production if their customers make it clear this is what they want. [The Xerces Society's] guide, Buying Bee-Safe Plants, covers four ways to help you find plants that are safe for bees, and includes tips and questions to use at the nursery."

The Hidden Biases That Drive Anti-Vegan Hatred (Article, 2020) “People love to moan that vegans are annoying: research has shown that only drug addicts inspire the same degree of loathing. Crucial conversations – Tools for talking when the stakes are high by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan and Al Swizler. Summarised by Paul Arnold is a good place to start, though a full copy of the book, perhaps from your local library, can help further cement the information and give more time to fully absorb as well as learn to apply the information.
Once you have a good handle on the facts, communication is the next step. By learning new languages, or improving our proficiency in ones we already partially know, we have help spread important ideas further and faster. Duolingo.com is a free learning platform that teaches an ever-growing list of languages including languages that are at risk of extinction. There are also groups like r/languagelearning and subs in specific languages where you can practice with native speakers.

A Student Guide for Community Organization (PDF) "I wrote this guide as a collection of anecdotes and lessons I have learned from being an undocumented, working-class woman of color who is also an organizer and a student. I want this guide to inspire people to organize in their communities and develop the tools they need in the ongoing fight for liberation and freedom. I chose to write this guide as a form of resilience.
Over the past six years, I have been an organizer and have had to balance school, work, and being an activist. At times I had to prioritize my organizing over my own academic goals, and I am now just understanding how to balance each part of my life." While this guides is directed at students, it's got valuable lessons for people outside of school too.
Community Organising Training Manual "This manual is similar to the PACOS COT Manual 2005 which consists of input materials and the process involved in training community organizers who are mainly indigenous youths with no previous exposure or training. The materials in the manual can also be used as general information for those interested in learning to conduct community organising work and must be complemented with other resource materials.
The manual consists of six modules in three different parts. Each module is estimated to be completed within 1-3 months. The methods and activity durations suggested in each module are only a guide and will need to be adjusted according to the training conditions, time, availability of materials and the participants’ levels.
Each module needs to be complemented with fieldwork and practical in order for the participants to understand and apply the principles, concepts and methods learnt during theory sessions. Some additional activities are provided in this manual, for example, the land and the community mapping workshops. Through these extra activities, participants will be able to generate ideas on activities according to the needs of their own villages.
With this manual, we hope the introduction to the process of community organising is more effective and that it enhances the readers’ interest in learning community organising work."
Vision Toolkit Booklet (PDF) "The Visions Toolkit contains instructions and tools to support YFOEE facilitators to run a variety of outreach activities, in three phases, enabling diverse individuals and groups across Europe to:

• Guidelines for facilitators
• Activity worksheets
• Explanations and examples
• Guidelines for sharing insights across YFOEE
En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator "is a fast, powerful climate solutions scenario tool for understanding how we can achieve our climate goals through changes in energy, land use, consumption, agriculture, and other policies. The simulator focuses on how changes in global GDP, energy efficiency, technological innovation, and carbon price influence carbon emissions, global temperature, and other factors. It is designed to provide a synthesis of the best available science on climate solutions and put it at the fingertips of groups in policy workshops and roleplaying games. These experiences enable people to explore the long-term climate impacts of global policy and investment decisions.
En-ROADS is being developed by Climate Interactive, Ventana Systems, UML Climate Change Initiative, and MIT Sloan.
This guide provides background on the dynamics of En-ROADS, tips for using the simulator, general descriptions, real-world examples, slider settings, and model structure notes for the different sliders in En-ROADS."
Rewiring America: Track Your Local Pace of Progress "These projections from Rewiring America worked backwards from the emissions targets for 2050, and forward from current sales of machines for cooking, water heating, space heating, transportation, and rooftop solar to set a number of new clean electric machines that must be sold each year to reduce emissions from fossil-fueled machines. Type your city, county, or state into the search bar to get those numbers broken down for your area, by each machine category.
While creating this tool, one of things we found is that some individual communities and states are leading the way: their goals are bolder than the rest of the country and so don’t match the path laid out in our data. That’s a great problem to have. So our tool should not be considered the only source of its kind -- but one that reflects only one of the possible paths to decarbonization."

Animal Charity Evaluators "ACE Movement Grants (formerly “Effective Animal Advocacy Fund”) is for anyone who is interested in making the animal advocacy movement more effective."
The Pollination Project (TPP) "is a vegan foundation that offers seed funding to grassroots activists working to build a kinder, more compassionate world for human & non-human animals.
TPP focuses on early stage ideas and funds individuals directly. Over the years, they’ve seen the power of bottom-up, community-led grassroots activism. Through “pollination philanthropy”– a democratic model of peer-to-peer decision-making — TPP works with a global network of grantees, community partners, and volunteer advisors to identify extraordinary project leaders who, due to the grassroots nature of their work, are often not in a position to receive funding from other foundations or institutions.
They make micro grants 365 days a year to grassroots global change agents and have a growing global community of 4,500 grassroots leaders in 150 countries. They support vegan outreach projects around the world, and have a special program for farmed animal activists in Brazil, India and Mexico. Their goal is to offer not just seed funding, but capacity-building support and connectivity with other activists working in the same geographic or issue area."
