Kelp Forest Foundation "Harnessing the power of giant kelp forests to restore the health of our planet

We are a non-profit organisation aimed at establishing the ecosystem value of giant kelp as a recognised nature-based solution. We do this by driving science, enabling knowledge sharing and building capacity."

OSPAR "is the mechanism by which 15 Governments & the EU cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic.

OSPAR started in 1972 with the Oslo Convention against dumping and was broadened to cover land-based sources of marine pollution and the offshore industry by the Paris Convention of 1974. These two conventions were unified, up-dated and extended by the 1992 OSPAR Convention. The new annex on biodiversity and ecosystems was adopted in 1998 to cover non-polluting human activities that can adversely affect the sea.

The fifteen Governments are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

OSPAR is so named because of the original Oslo and Paris Conventions ("OS" for Oslo and "PAR" for Paris)."

About This Site

We're still very much in our beginning phase, but have a small, growing team of volunteers gathering the latest developments and (re)discoveries that can help us all spend our time and energy more wisely, as the window to make a meaningful impact quickly draws shut.

Scientists have told us that the time to act is "now or never".

Fortunately our ancient ancestors already invented many solutions that were lost over time, but which are being rediscovered, or even improved upon by modern science. We also live in a point in human history when were have more scientists, engineers, and others collaborating with missions of solving water shortages, reducing emissions, and everything else we need to do to survive the unfolding crisis.

We believe that by gathering examples of and instructions for the many ancient and newly invented solutions into one place, we can help you be a part of the green revolution needed to save ourselves and the ecosystems that keep us all alive. We're working hard to help find things that you can do at home for little-to-no money. Things you can implement at home, work, or school, or that can be done at the civic level.

We don't accept donations or allow advertising, but we do mention and even show some products as examples of existing items/solutions. This generally isn't an endorsement of any specific product or design (though we have tried to stick with recipes and food brands we personally enjoyed), but rather intended as examples of what is currently possible and accessible around the world. Some may even be available in your area!
