11:14 minute video about a new type of art museum. Not only do the underwater blocks and art pieces damage the equipment of illegal fishing fleets, but they also provide safe places for organisms to colonize after the destruction of their habitats by illegal drag nets.
Casa dei Pesci "is a nonprofit association, formed in 2012. Our mission is the protection of the marine environment.
In our action, we were inspired by the work of Paolo Fanciulli, Paolo the Fisherman, an artisanal fisherman and environmental guide, who has been fighting for the defense of the sea of the Maremma for over forty years.
We intend to develop projects for the conservation and protection of the marine environment, using art as a means of raising public awareness.
Our projects are mainly aimed at the sea of Maremma, but our message does not want to stop there!
The Association wants to set itself up as an example of good practice both nationally and internationally."
Planet Wild: 21 Underwater Sculptures in Italy "Casa dei Pesci held a month-long event where artists created five new marble sculptures. Alongside these, protective cement blocks were dropped off the coast to protect sea life from bottom trawling. These blocks are specifically designed with holes to provide marine life with new homes lost to harmful fishing. Thanks to the incredible support of the Planet Wild community, five sculptures and 40 protective blocks have been added to the coastline, helping to keep Posidonia and the ecosystem safe."
