Eliminating energy-related emissions, and other pollution caused by the energy industry requires both a reduction in energy use (possible via increased insulation and other energy-saving solutions), as well as a transition to cleaner forms of energy production.
Scientists have long supported this shift, and around the world communities and entire nations have been taking the plunge. This page focuses on these types of technologies, and how different regions around the world are implementing these new technologies. In addition to seeing which sustainable energies are replacing which fossil fuels, and the impact on pollution levels, we'll also look at some examples of how well these energy stand up to climate change and our increasingly unpredictable disaster events.
The following is divided by region, according to this map, as voted on by the members of r/planeteerhandbook.
"In 2024, 46.9% of net electricity generated in the EU came from renewable energy sources.
Among EU countries, Denmark had the highest share of renewables in its net electricity generation with 88.4%, coming mostly from wind, followed by Portugal (87.5%, mostly wind and hydro) and Croatia (73.7%, mostly hydro). The lowest shares of renewables were recorded in Luxembourg (5.1%), Malta (15.1%) and Czechia (15.9%)." - Eurostat: Electricity from Renewable Sources Reaches 47% in 2024
