Humans are stronger in numbers. That includes our personal wellbeing, community health and wellbeing.
Friendship ensures we each have people we can count on in times of need, and science has shown that those with social connections live longer, healthier lives than those who live in isolation.
We can't always convince our families to jump on the sustainability train, but we can make changes in our personal lives and positively influence our friends. Environmental steps can be easier and more efficient when we have more people to share these actions with.
Some examples include:
Carpooling (or other eco-friendly forms of travel) to protests, rewilding projects, or clean-up events.
Teach one another new skills - gardening, mending, cycling or other types of active mobility, sustainable cooking and crafting for example.
If you want to make new friends or find new ways to spend time with the people you already cherish, then organizations like charities and conservation groups can be a great place to socialize.
The best way to find new people is to consider your own values. What problems in the world worry you, or what activities make you feel alive and hopeful? The following are listed by topic. Click the green buttons to find an international directory of organizations near you.
If you can't find any close enough, try using a websearch to find your closest group. If there aren't any, consider starting your own, maybe even with a few friends!
School, adult classes, and even your local library can be great resources for both for education as well as making friends.
